10$ isn't that much to spend considering you can change the appearance of 5 of your characters.. especially if you made a horrible mistake and you realize your character looks like they have down-syndrome.
On another note... I do think 10$ for a single storage pane (20 Slots) is absolutely ridiculous... There is a MUCH better use for 10$ imo.
I would rather buy another copy of Prophecies from newegg.com for 10$ (free shipping) and have 200+ additional storage slots and another source of zKey income every month.
Kudos to ANET, I know ppl that will buy all 4 panes just to have them unlocked...

I know many players with double that number of characters, with multiple accounts they actually play on. That adds up quick.
I'm glad I'm happy with the way most of my characters look but the point is some aren't, and forcing them to know there's a way to change it, but they'd have to spend half a week's paycheck(for some) during the worst financial crisis in recent history in order to do it, it's ridiculous.
"Just $10." 10+ times. "Just $100" sounds a lot different to me, struggling to get through life during these times. Not everyone has a steady income and is able to drop a Benji just to make their characters look better. And before you say "if you're struggling through life, why are you playing a game?" bear in mind that some people can't get jobs at the moment, some people are in school or college and don't have the time. some people have possible medical conditions that essentially siphon money out of their bank accounts and prevent them from acquiring gainful employment. It happens. GW appeals to those people because they don't HAVE to pay monthly.

Wow, QQ much? Here's an idea - don't like the price, don't buy it. You're no worse off than before. Nothing's changed for you. Nada.
And your assertion that people who buy the makeovers are the ones leeching off of mommy and daddy? lmao. I'd wager the whiners are the ones doing the leeching, because they don't want to have to go beg for another few dollars "for some dumb game". Those of us with jobs realize that $10 is, in fact, trivial compared to the time it would take to reroll five characters, and have bought the makeovers and gone on with life.

I agree with this. I like my characters when I made them and I still like them now. That said I wouldn't mind changing hair style/colour on a few of them, just for something different, but I do not want to pay money for just 5 changes. I'd pay $2 per character to be able to change hair colour/style at any time I like (within reason, say like once or twice a month).
I say that there should be three different options:
a minor make over that you can pay with in game gold, or pay $ to change whenever you like.
a major change which is altering height or face
a extreme (or superior if we want to go with the rune theme) makeover which is the gender change.

This is fully hilarious. "Hello! Earth calling A11Eur0!".
Look at the responses here. People get 5 makeovers for $10, and fix up one or two characters. Nobody is buying a name change and 5 makeovers for every one of their 10 characters. $100, $200? LOL. Totally unrealistic scenario.

0. Took my time in character customization, and never regretted the appearance of a single character that I have to this day.

People like to change the appearance of their characters, through armour, weapons, capes etc. I don't see people being called unintelligent because they change the appearance of their characters in this way. Yet apparently they become morons, if they pay some peanuts to change their hair/face/whatever using makeover kits.
Just sounds like sour grapes from people who want everything in the game to be free. Nothing wrong with having that point of view (although I don't agree with them)... but calling people stupid because they choose to spend a few $ on some frivolous luxury, I consider that childish and petty. Everyone (bar the truly destitute), spends money on frivolous luxuries - whichever ones suit them. Just because people buy luxuries that I personally wouldn't... is no reason for me to call them stupid.
|
Agreed. I'd like to see a coherent argument from the naysayers who think players purchasing the makeover pack have some sort of problem. Do you call people who drive luxuary cars in real life mental as well? I mean a shitbox will get you from A to B too.
It is a completely optional feature, has no affect on gameplay and or the status ability or ranking of your own chars either. Like the quoted post says sounds like sour grapes and or a dose of envy.

I'm thinking about changing my ele's face. Ever since Anet "updated" the faces for Nightfall's launch, she's looked like a vapid mouth breather. That is NOT the way she was intended to look, and it's a shame I have to pay to fix Anet's work.
Yes, I'm still mad about it.
I didn't know you got several makeovers for the $10. That makes it a bit more appealing, but I'm happy with the way the other characters look.

I just slap on a dragon mask on the ugly characters. Zero dollars.
When I buy a game I'll never spend any more money on it, whether that be micro-transactions of monthly fees. They got my money for 3 games, and that should be enough.
If you want to, go ahead. It's your money, and tell anyone who's trying to tell you how to spend it to screw off.

How many of you people talking about this being an insane waste of money actually have a job (a real job, not some part-time thing for beer money or tuition)?
And consider: all of the time you spent grinding for gold or items to change your character's appearance could have been spent working. Even at minimum wage, many players have squandered the time-equivalent of thousands of dollars to change their characters' appearances.
$10 is nothing.

I called this. Read my last post. Not everyone can get a job on a whim, and not many WOULD take a less-than-favorable job just to pay for goodies in Guild Wars. Personally if I had extra disposable income now, I'd pay off some of my debt. You're talking of people who have enough disposable income to pay for everything they need and then some, or people who don't have to work for their money and have no responsibilities to deal with.

Have one, but that's not the point. $2 is too much to change a character once. If it was $2 to change a character's hair as many times as I wanted, I'd pay. $10 for 5 changes total, yeah, I don't like this plan.

Still everyone's making it seem like a trivial sum, even dropping the dollar figure down to a "per change" figure. Yeah, like you're going to change ONE THING on ONE CHARACTER. Even if you only wanted to change that one thing, you're forced to buy five changes. And people have a LOT OF CHARACTERS...many of which I'm sure could use some cross-campaign combinations(would look nice), especially after looking at the same face for upwards of 4 years straight!
Odds are the average player would like to change, and I'm tossing numbers out there, two to three characters completely, besides name or gender. That's 20-30 dollars just to change some looks to something a little fresh, and which doesn't require ANY additional overhead for Anet as the general mechanisms are already in place in the character creation sequence. Don't even get me started on the name change...it was being tossed around willy nilly for reported offensive names, FREE! Was the 3-day ban required to get everything set up for the name change? Was each individual change engineered and prepared specifically by a staff coder? I doubt it. That would be ungodly inefficient and it's crazy to think that we should have to pay for Anet's lack of efficiency.
